After the Chinese Taipei national team defeated Japan to claim the World Baseball Championship title at the WBSC Premier12, fans celebrating this incredible "Year of Baseball" should also keep an eye on the performances of young players in the U12, U15, and U18 national teams.
Following the Premier12, the U12 team emerged victorious in the 2024 Asian U12 Baseball Championship, defeating South Korea in the finals. Interestingly, both the Premier12 and the U12 Asian Championship had a similar pattern—Chinese Taipei lost to their final opponents (Japan in Premier12 and South Korea in U12) in the earlier rounds, but in the championship game, they overcame the pressure and secured the title with a stunning comeback victory.
Next, we turn to the U15 team, which competed in the 2024 U15 Baseball World Cup. Although they managed to defeat Japan, the eventual U15 World Champion, during the Super Round, their overall record placed them third in their group for the semifinals. In the bronze medal match, they triumphed over Nicaragua with a thrilling 7-6 victory, earning a commendable third place in the world.
The U18 team participated in the 2024 Asian U18 Baseball Championship, which was hosted in Taiwan. With home-field advantage, Chinese Taipei dominated Group A, advancing to the Super Round against the Philippines, South Korea, and Japan. The Philippines suffered three consecutive losses, eliminating them from championship contention. Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, and Japan all finished with identical 2-1 records. After calculating the TQB (Team Quality Balance), Chinese Taipei and Japan secured spots in the finals. In a high-stakes match, Chinese Taipei defeated Japan 6-1, reclaiming the Asian U18 Championship title for the first time in 17 years.
From grassroots baseball to the professional level, Taiwanese baseball has delivered outstanding results this year, gaining recognition even from Japan—the current world No. 1 across all levels. 12強大会の後、U12の若き選手たちも 2024年アジアU12野球選手権 で韓国を破り、見事優勝を果たしました。この12強とU12アジア選手権には共通点があります。それは、どちらの大会でも中華代表チームは予選またはスーパーラウンドで決勝の相手に敗れたものの（12強は日本、U12は韓国）、最終的な決勝戦ではプレッシャーに打ち勝ち、見事リベンジを果たして優勝したことです。
続いて U15代表チーム の活躍を振り返ると、2024年U15ワールドカップで準決勝進出を果たし、スーパーラウンドでは今年の世界チャンピオンである日本を撃破しました。しかし、総合成績ではグループ3位となり、最終的には7-6でニカラグアを下し、世界第3位の座を獲得しました。
U18代表チーム は 2024年アジアU18野球選手権 に出場し、この大会は台湾で開催されたため、地元の大きな声援を受けながら戦いました。中華代表チームはAグループを1位で突破し、スーパーラウンドではフィリピン、韓国、日本と対戦。フィリピンは全敗で決勝進出がならず、台湾・韓国・日本の3チームが2勝1敗で並びました。TQB（対戦優位率）の計算により台湾と日本が決勝へ進出。決勝では台湾が6-1で日本を破り、実に17年ぶりのアジアU18王者 に輝きました！
こうして、今年はジュニア世代からプロレベルまで、台湾野球が各カテゴリーで素晴らしい成績を収めました。特に、現在すべての年齢カテゴリーで世界ランキング1位に立つ日本が、台湾野球の実力を大いに認めるほどの快進撃でした。
